What
is a VCD?
VCD stands for "Video Compact Disc" and basically it is
a CD that contains moving pictures and sound. A VCD can be played
on: Standalone VCD Players (very common in Asia); almost all standalone
DVD players; on all computers with a CD-ROM/DVD-ROM's with a software
VCD/MPG Player. (Note: This is probably not on all computers and
would require a download or purchase of software.)
The
quality of a very good VCD player is about the same as a VHS tape
based movie but VCD is usually a bit more blurry. Some churches
in North America who work in/with China a lot will have these
and be familiar with them.
For
dual track it requires users to be able to control left vs. right
side speakers. On this VCD one side plays Cantonese, one plays
Mandarin. On a VCD player this is simple to change. On DVD the
user has to go to the back of the DVD and unplug the side of the
speakers they do not wish to hear (typically there are 4 audio
plugs on the back of the DVD; 2 left, 2 right) so they do not
hear both audio tracks at once. If you wish more information on
this technology please go to: http://www.dvdrhelp.com/vcd.htm#more.
