The
Global Chinese Alpha Conference 2007 was successfully
held at the Hong Kong International Trade & Exhibition
Centre on the 10th & 11th April 2007.
We
praise God for His Glory and Might! Almost 2000 delegates
listened to talks given by the Holy Trinity Brompton team,
including Rev Nicky Gumbel, Rev Jamie Haith and Dr Graham
Tomlin. The worship was led by Tim Hughes.

The
Global Chinese Alpha Conference began after the opening
prayer led by Elder Hugo Chan of Full Gospel Businessmen
Fellowship. Elder Chan is also a member of Election of
Christian Electors to the HK Chief Executive Election
Committee. Opening remarks and encouraging words were
also said by Bishop Paul Kwong, Archbishop of the Anglican
Church Hong Kong and Cardinal Zen of the Catholic Diocese
of Hong Kong.
Bishop
Paul Kwong used an analogy that the Alpha Course is like
a doctor's prescription. "The Alpha Course is like
a medical prescription which we take to cure us from sickness.
Alpha is a means of leading people to know Christ. Alpha
itself cannot save people; only our Lord Jesus Christ
can save us. I believe this is the aim of this conferenceˇK"
We
are encouraged to see the support of a number of Bible
colleges and church leaders attending the Conference.
Among them are, but not limited to, Anglican, Baptist,
Church of Christ in China, Christian & Mission Alliance
Church, Presbyterian, Methodist, Lutheran and Pentecostal
Church.
Outreach
to the Chinese community is the worldwide missionary focus
of the 21st Century. 2007 marks the 200th anniversary
of Morrison's missionary voyage to China. In this kairos
moment, our prime focus of this Conference is to introduce
the Alpha Course to the Chinese Christian leaders around
the world.
Delegates
came from 25 countries, including a delegation from the
Chinese Christian Council, Mainland China, Hong Kong,
Taiwan, Macau, U.S.A., Canada, Australia, New Zealand,
Japan, Korea, India, Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand,
Philippines, Mongolia, and several European countries
including France and Luxembourg.
Rev.
Gumbel welcomed the delegates to this first ever Global
Chinese Alpha Conference, in Cantonese, which impressed
many and was well received by all. Nicky also made a keen
observation that God obviously loves the Chinese people
and that's why he has made many more Chinese than anyone
else!
Going
along with the local culture, a special Chinese opening
ceremony was performed by the guests of honour cutting
a red silk ribbon.
Our
very own Honorary Alpha Advisers, Rev Eddie Ma and Rev
Peter Ho gave talks on "Alpha in a Chinese Context"
and "Prayer on Alpha" respectively. According
to the feedback from questionnaires, these talks were
very well received and appreciated.

remarks from questionnaires as follows:

benefit to small group ministry and cell group leadership"
"The
practical steps spoken at the talk on the Holy Spirit
were very helpful and encouraging. The talk clearly
reinforced the understanding of the Work of the Holy
Spirit, originating from God, which cures our sickness
and touches our souls. Rev Gumbel was passionate in
his sharing and I learnt a lot about how the Alpha Course
can be a platform to bring salvation and to change lives."
"Helped
me to have more confidence in bringing friends to Christ."
"Praise
God! Seeing the witness of so many passionate missionaries
and fellow Christians present, it gives me confidence
to continue my walk with Christ."
The
Global Chinese Alpha Conference will also be remembered
for its impact on youth. Over 600 people attended a
Youth Alpha training day and 2,000 young people were
blessed with two concerts featuring Tim Hughes and worship
band Planetshakers.

What's
next?
Our
prayer is that God will use what our hands have done to
bring a 30-fold, 60-fold even 100-fold harvests!
Alpha
Invitation - a citywide Alpha promotion to encourage churches
to train together, pray together, and join forces together,
culminating in the Alpha Invitation dinners in September.
The more Alpha dinners, the more courses, the more people
attending a course, and the more people will come to know
the good news of salvation.
We
